Festival Days

Walk through the opening gates and back to the time of the short reign of young Edward VI of England and His court of lords and ladies, jesters and swordwsmen, wenches, fairies and other fanciful folk. With shows every half hour and plenty of opportunities to participate in the fun, the festival has something for everyone. Take a carriage ride, learn to fence, juggle, dance or climb a Jacob's Ladder and then relax and listen to the music of the time or watch His Majesty's court battle in the Human Chess match. Children can be honored with an invitation to Mead with His Majesty or the Knighting Ceremony, or take part in the works of Shakespeare done just for them. There are games to be played, prizes to be won and court intrigue to follow, so come early and spend your day with us!

Music

Royales and Rogues

A delightful, funny (and sometimes bawdy!), quartet,

the Royales sing while the Rogues play.   With three shows daily,

you can catch them in performance under a pavilion or as they

stroll the grounds.  When you meet them, however, be prepared

to play along, or even become part of their act.

They rarely take 'no' for an answer.

Fun and Games

Fencing, Fighting and the Like

Try your luck and increase your skill in a variety of games and pastimes of the period.  Learn to throw an axe, wield a rapier, climb a Jacob's Ladder, or shoot an arrow from one of the residents of the shire.

Carriage Rides

Join the shire's coachman for a complimentary ride around the shire.   If you have an empty seat in your carriage, don't be surprised if one of the shire's residents hops in to accompany you.

Jack O' All Trades

Jack is a professional jester who roams the shire and does amazing and amusing stage shows

consisting of juggling, balancing, fire eating, rope- and stilt- walking, with lots of opportunities

for audience participation.

  Country Dancing

No previous experience required!  Our roving

dancers are always looking for a few good men

and women to partake in a dance.  Three times

a day (at least) there will be dances in the

meadow.  Patrons are invited, and sometimes

even coerced, into joining the romp. Either

    way, fun is guaranteed.

Costume Competition

Come dressed your best for His Majesty Edward's

pleasure and compete for fame, glory and more importantly, prizes.

Human Chess

Daily at two of the clock, His Majesty and subjects

duke it out on the chess board.  A few lucky (or simply willing) volunteers join in the fun.
